In order to gain planning permission in the ‘Open Countryside’ outside the ‘village envelope’ we had to successfully demonstrate that the building has a unique, high-quality design. This unique design included following Passivhaus principles. We worked with architects to ensure it followed the 6 critical issues of:
• Thermal Envelope
• Insulation
• Thermal bridging
• Glazing
• Airtightness
• Ventilation
We showed careful consideration of the land use for both living and farming activities, size, layout and scale. One particular challenge was demonstrating its positive impact and low visual impact on the rural landscape.
We also successfully gained permission for demolition of existing structures, demonstrating their lack of architectural interest and utility.
