We explained the unsuitability of the previous Early years block, in a poor state of repair with insufficient facilities to meet modern day requirements.
We evaluated the options for the site. Eventually we chose the site of the new classroom block as it comprised a number of dilapidated outbuildings and from its sylvan character.
We justified the need for the centre as it provides additional school places for the community aligning with the National Planning Policy Framework and as it is an example of sustainable infrastructure.
Our main challenge was that the site is covered by a tree preservation order (TPO) which meant the application had to be sensitive of the impact of the building on protected trees. We proposed and gained consent for a large building on stilts within the root protection zone of many trees which continue to thrive today.
